Faktor-Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Terbentuknya Sedimen di Muara Sungai Kota Balikpapan

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) Mengetahui faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi terbentuknya sedimen pada muara sungai di Teluk Balikpapan, (2) Mengetahui tingkat sedimentasi di Sungai Somber, Wain, Tengah, Berenga, dan Tempadung, (3) Mengetahui kualitas air dan kualitas sedimen dasar perairan di muara Sungai Somber, Wain, Tengah, Berenga, dan Tempadung. Penelitian dilaksanakan di 5 (lima) stasiun muara sungai yakni di muara Sungai Somber, Wain, Tengah, Berenga, dan Tempadung Teluk Balikpapan. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan menganalisis paramater oseanografi (Arah dan kecepatan arus, pasang surut, bathimetri, salinitas, pH, angin, curah hujan, dan debit air), analisis sedimen dasar (Tekstur sedimen, bentos, redoks potensial) dan sedimen suspensi (TSS). Tahapan penelitian terdiri dari tahap persiapan, pengumpulan data, dan analisis data.           Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) Faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi terbentuknya sedimen pada muara sungai di Teluk Balikpapan adalah arus perairan oleh fluktuasi pasang surut yang menyebabkan tercampur dan terendapkannya sedimen di dasar perairan, (2) Tingkat sedimentasi tertinggi diperoleh di Muara Sungai Berenga dan Tempadung; (3.a) Tingkat kekeruhan perairan tertinggi diperoleh di Muara Sungai Berenga dan Tempadung sehingga turut mempengaruhi penurunan kualitas air; (3.b) Kualitas sedimen dasar perairan di setiap stasiun pengamatan menunjukkan sedimen dalam kondisi teroksidasi walaupun pada Muara Sungai Somber dan Muara Sungai Wain mempunyai aktifitas elektron lebih tinggi dibanding Muara Sungai Tengah, Berenga, dan Tempadung dengan nilai redoks potensial (Eh) berada pada mintakat diskontinyu
